For years now our kids have celebrated Christmas with the Welches and exchanged gifts. This year we decided to do something a little different. Since our kids have so much and need nothing we decided to get together, sponsor a needy child and take a night to take our kids shopping for someone less fortunate than them. We really wanted to teach a lesson on how blessed we are--and recognizing that, as well as teach a lesson of taking care of our fellow man who may be less fortunate than we are.
I was one proud mama today and I know Becky was as well. Lawson asked me early this morning to get his piggy bank off of his shelf so he could get his birthday money out to use. :) So sweet! So, off to Wal-Mart we went. The kids were wild with excitement. They are always especially excited to see one another now that they don't see each other regularly every day.
I have to tell you that these kids' hearts were MUCH bigger than our pocketbooks! They picked out so many things! Each of mine took $10 of their own money and paid for a toy for this little boy. (I know the Welch kids paid for something themselves, too I just didn't see what they bought with their money) They laid it up at the register and Jagger even told the cashier that he was buying that for "a little boy who doesn't have any toys". Our hearts swelled a little tonight. They have all been praised for their giving hearts and I'm glad they were able to experience doing something for others first hand.
Our Christmas is a little more blessed now knowing someone else will have a little brighter Christmas. :) Thanks, Becky for joining us on this and we will definitely have to make this a new Christmas tradition for many years to come! It has been a tremendously enjoyable night!
