A cowboy???

On Monday, Lawson and I spent a special afternoon together. I try to let each boy have a special day every so often when the other brother is not around for special one-on-one time with mama. I always enjoy this time as do the boys as well.

After I picked Lawson up from pre-school on Monday we ate lunch and he went with me to run errands. We had several stops to make, one including Target. I let him pick out one small toy as a token of our trip. He didn't really see anything that just jumped out at him but reluctantly picked out a very small Transformers action figure. As we were walking up to the check-out line he slapped his palm against his forehead and said, "Ahhh! Mom! I picked the wrong thing!" I asked him what he had wanted and he looked at me with pitiful eyes and said, "Can we just go to Wal-Mart instead? They always have things I like." I never knew there was such a difference in Target and Wal-Mart toys but in a 4 1/2 year old's eyes, there certainly is! :)

We left Target (without any toys) and headed to my dr. visit. With all of Lawson's concerns about how Rhett will get here and if mama will be taken care of properly, I thought it might help him to meet the dr. that will deliver Rhett. While we were there, Lawson got to listen to Rhett's heartbeat. His eyes got big and I wondered what he was thinking. When they were finished I asked him what the thought about it and what he thought it sounded like. He told me that is sounded like Rhett was dressed up like a cowboy with a rope. I thought about it for a minute and realized that he was talking about the sound of a lasso being slung round and round. It's exactly what the heartbeat sounded like! Ironically, several weeks prior, we had bought some material for a baby blanket that had...you guessed it...cowboys with lassos on it! Maybe Rhett is destined to be a cowboy! :) At least Lawson is convinced. :)

Lawson got to meet the dr. which happened to be the dr. that delivered him as well. They hit it off and the dr. won him over when they sat and talked airplanes and Blue Angels together. Turns out the dr. grew up on an air force base and was very knowledgeable (in Lawson's eyes anyway) about airplane lingo.

As we were leaving the office I asked Lawson if he thought that dr. would take good care of me and he said "Oh YES!" Guess the dr. degree has nothing to do with it...as long as you can talk airplanes, you are qualified! As we loaded the van, Lawson said, "What a neat guy!"

And, our trip did end up at Wal-Mart. Lawson picked an airplane and he was pleased as punch. He even bought one for his brother as well. I so enjoyed the afternoon with him and look forward to the next time when it is just he and mama!
