Today my daddy turns 50!!! Happy birthday dad! Although my dad and I do not share the same birth date, we share something similarly special--the "biggies". Each time my dad has a "biggie" birthday, mine follows in a couple of months. He turned 40 the summer that I turned 20. We are exactly 20 years apart. This year is a special biggie. He turns 50 and I will hit 30! It has always been super easy for me to remember how old my daddy is because of this. There are so many things I can say about my daddy. He is one of the greatest men I know. He never gets worked up about anything. He is patient, soft-spoken, caring, and a great Christian family man.
I don't know if I'd be called a daddy's girl or not--I'm pretty close to my whole family. But I do know that my dad and I have always had a very special relationship. My dad introduced me to the BeeGee's at only 1 year old, Spider Man and the Hulk at a very early age, Wonder Woman around age 4 or 5 and Magnum PI shortly after that. These were things we shared a love for. Actually any show that had to do with super-heroes or sci-fi, we were huge fans of! We also loved Buck Rogers!
He was perhaps the most patient with me during my "I know everything" teen-age years. I am sometimes thankful that I'll never have any girls for fear they'd be like me as a teenager. Ha. I am so thankful to my dad for so many things. He helps us out around the house, baby-sits my boys when I'm in a pinch and basically does anything I need or ask him to do.
I recently discovered that he may be perhaps the most unselfish person I know. We kept asking him where he wanted us to take him to eat for his birthday supper. Something that is NEVER hard for me to decide. We kept naming off places only to realize we didn't know if those were his favorites or not. Every time we go somewhere to eat, someone else always picks. I can't remember him ever picking where we eat! (Well, except for Pineapple Willy's and unfortunately that is too far to drive tonight!)
Just a side note about the picture above. I used to love to sit and "smoke" my corn-cob pipe with my daddy when I was little. Recently I found that I could buy corn-cob pipes at the flea market! I haven't seen them in years. I had to buy three for my boys to have as keepsakes even though they have no idea what they are or what they are for! Hopefully they will appreciate them as I would love to have my old one now--just for the memories!
Thanks dad for all you do for me and mean to me and our family! I love you and hope you have a fantastic birthday--old man! :)

Is that you or your brother in that picture??? It looks a lot like Jagger to me! It may just be me though!!!
I guess now that I look at it again I can tell it's you because of the long hair...I didn't notice that at first. I thought it was just a shadow on the chair!!
Yeah, it's me. It's funny you mentioned it looking like Jagger because I've never really thought we looked all that much alike but when I pulled this picture out I even told mom how much I thought he favored me, in that picture anyways! It's nice to have one look like me. :)
